Seriously, does that happen to you also? You're so busy getting ready, then making sure everything is done and everyone is having a good time that you forget to enjoy yourself.
Every year I say I'm not going to do that but every year I get caught up in the whirlwind and voila, it's January.
Back to work. A Cowboy's Love is set in Arizona in the late 1800's.
Annabelle Steele, highborn into Philadelphia Society, becomes engaged to another member of Philadelphia’s elite aristocracy. Both sets of parents are thrilled with the influential match until Jameson Henry Bartlett’s real character is revealed.
Rather than be subjected to the man’s further depravity, Annabelle takes matters into her own hands and plans her getaway. She accepts a teaching position in San Francisco and clandestinely makes her escape as Grace Callahan.
Fate intervenes, and her travel plans are thwarted when her stagecoach overturns and she is left stranded in the Arizona Territory. Marsh Tucker discovers the accident and takes Ms. Callahan and the other survivors to the Winding Creek Ranch.
At first, Marsh Tucker thinks Ms. Callahan is nothing but a young spoiled society brat and treats her with disdain. Grace Callahan believes Marsh Tucker is nothing but a brute and bully after he takes her over his knee and gives her the spanking he thinks she so richly deserves. They’re both wrong.
If you read last weeks blurb you know about the stagecoach accident and the survivors ending up at Winding Creek Ranch. Everyone, except Grace told their particulars but Grace managed to evade answering any questions about her past, present or future by getting in a snit. This next scene takes place a couple of days later. A visitor comes to the ranch and shortly after that, Grace and a horse come up missing.
“I knew it,” Marsh said. “She was hiding something. Now we have to spend valuable time and manpower in search of a gal that has no common sense. Someone should have spanked some sense into her by now and by damn when we find her, she’s going to learn the hard way. How long has she been gone?”
“Now Marsh, calm down. We don’t know the whole story,” his mother said.
“Exactly, but we asked, and she didn’t say a word. Well, by damn, she’s going to talk now.”
...Marsh was furious. He hoped like hell she hadn’t ridden off a cliff or fell off the horse or worse yet been captured by a band of renegade Apaches. ‘By damn, when I get my hands on her, I’m going to blister her butt.”
Does he find her and then follow through on his thoughts?
