Here we go again. Thank you Melody for getting us together each week to share our Works in Progress. Hope you're feeling better soon. Be sure to stop by the other author's blogs and get a glimpse of their WIP's.
Last week I asked if I should continue writing this WIP of an older couple (middle aged) and the overwhelming consensus was Go For It. So, here is another sample.
Scott Carson's company, CESI is working with Jensen Manufacturing and Erica has been assigned as the Project Manager.
The project demanded that Erica and Scott spend many working hours together. It wasn’t long before they realized the sparks went way beyond the workplace. He asked her to dinner on a regular basis, and she would refuse. Her excuse was she didn’t mix business with pleasure. She held on but secretly hoped that attraction would survive until the end of the project. Sensing a decency about him and although he was extremely handsome and had been given every advantage, he was a down-to-earth humble gentleman. Later, when she met his parents, she knew why. He had been taught from a very early age what counted was inside not outside, and it was reflected in his every encounter with others, no matter their station in life.
When the project was completed, her hopes were answered. He asked her to dinner again, and this time she accepted. Erica was extremely nervous before their first date; since her divorce she hadn’t dated that much. She made a few friends, went out in groups and occasionally accepted a blind date set up by her friends, but Scott was different. Erica needn’t have worried; Scott was charming as ever. They spent most of the evening telling each other tales of their childhood. He was surprised; she was divorced and asked what's and whys of her divorce. She told him she thought they had just married much too young and were both stubborn and opinionated. She remembered him laughing at that remark saying after working with her, he definitely would agree. They compared notes on the marriages of their parents and both agreed that a traditional marriage where one person was in charge seemed to work best.
When it was time to say goodnight, neither one of them wanted the evening to end. At her door, he gave her a chaste kiss and pulled away but continued to look at her as if waiting for a further signal from her. She grabbed him back and kissed him passionately. They continued this way, kissing each other while standing in the doorway like a couple of teenagers. They finally made it inside, and she remembered he carried her upstairs to her bedroom. She was ready to make love, but instead he sat her on the bed and sat down next to her.
“I’m not the type of guy to start anything I can’t finish. I am more than ready to take things to the next level, but I don’t believe in one-night stands, so if you’re ready to have a relationship with me, we can sleep together. If you’re not, I’ll go downstairs, and we can continue as we have been, just friends."
