WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY

Today's my first time visiting WIP It UP.  Many thanks to Melody Parks and her new blog hop 'WIP it UP Wednesday - this is where we authors get to talk about our new WIP's or Works in Progress.  I don't know the rules but I usually don't follow along well anyway.

This is from a WIP that does not have a final title yet but think maybe At The End of the Rainbow.

Ken and Melody had dinner at a restaurant in town.  After dinner, they sat in the lounge over drinks when Melody told Ken she was getting sleepy.  It had started snowing when they arrived at the restaurant, and by the time they left about three inches had accumulated.  The roads were starting to get slick, and it was a slow ride back to the ranch.  He put his arm over the back of the bench seat to reach around her shoulder and pull her in closer.  She scooted over but removed his hand and placed it back on the steering wheel.

“I think you should keep both hands on the wheel, buddy.”  Ken chuckled and said, “Yes ma’am.”

By the time they got to the ranch, it was snowing so hard the windshield wipers couldn’t keep up.  She suggested he spend the night instead of going on home, even though it was only ranch roads and not that far.

“Do you trust me?”

“Why shouldn’t I?  After all, you are practically family.”

“What I had in mind had nothing at all to do with you being family.”

You certainly didn’t think that was an invitation to bed me, did you?”

“A fellow can hope, can’t he?” giving her that sly little grin that set her heart aflutter.

Even though it wasn’t that far, he agreed he would spend the night.  Entering the cabin, she went right to the linen closet and pulled out some linens and a pillow.  She handed them to him and told him how to pull down the couch.

“You are really not kidding, are you?”

“No, I just met you, and I’m not in the habit of falling into bed with someone on the first date.  Sorry, if you’re disappointed.”

She told him she had a nice time, kissed him on the cheek, turned and went into her bedroom and closed the door.  He had not expected to sleep with her but was a little disappointed he only rated a kiss on the cheek.  He hoped that by the next date, he would at least get a real kiss.

The next morning when she came out of the bedroom he was gone.  He had refolded all the linens and put the couch back in place.  She looked for a note but there wasn’t one.

“Well,” she thought, “chalk that one up.”  The phone rang and she automatically said ‘Hi Penny’ when she picked it up figuring it would be her sister to get all the details of her date with Ken.

“I’m not Penny, disappointed?” this voice said.

“Who is this?” she asked, knowing who it was.

“Oh, now I’m the one disappointed.  I’ve made such an impression over the last few days that you don’t even recognize my voice.”

“Could this be the disappearing house guest?”

He laughed and said, “Okay, you got me.  I’m sorry, but I had an appointment this morning.”

“You couldn’t leave a note?”

“I would have if I could have found some paper.  The paper towel kept ripping,” he told her.

“Liar, liar, pants on fire.”  He laughed.  “Busted,” he told her.

“Listen, I have to go down to Denver for a few days and wondered if you would like to join me.  I know it’s more traveling, but I thought it might be fun and a chance for me to show you my place.  What do you think?”

She hemmed and hawed for a few moments.

“I’m not trying to get you into bed, well actually I am, but not until you are ready.  You can have your own room, there is plenty to choose from.”

“Okay, I think I would like to go and actually see the city.  We stopped there a few times during the campaign, and it looked beautiful from the plane window but that was about as much as I could see other than hotels.  When did you plan on leaving?”

“Actually, we would have to leave this afternoon to beat the weather.  Is that okay with you?”
