Who Have You Told?

I don't know how many of you have 'come out' so to speak and to whom.  I've been pretty circumspect about telling anyone there are published books out there that bear my pen name.  I think it took me six months before I told one of my friends.  She put me at ease and immediately wanted me to load it onto her computer.  Note, she had no e-reader, she is a real book gal.  I next told two other friends and they too glad handed me and immediately added them to their e-readers.

Six months have passed - the topic has never come up.  No feedback, reviews, nothing. What was I so nervous about?

Fast Forward - Since I spend a great deal of time on my laptop, brother started teasing me about being a computer nerd. I bit the bullet and told him I wrote stories.  "Do you make any money at it?"  Leave it to a male to get right to the heart of things.  "A little." - end of conversation.  No questions about what I write, could he read it - gone.  I am lucky enough to have developed a friendship with his "ladyfriend" and I did tell her and gave her one of my stories to read.  She is not a reader but she read the story and enjoyed it. Actually, yesterday I asked if she would pass out some of my cards since she is always out and about and she agreed.  Again no problem.

This past weekend, I was on the phone with my sister and she asked what I was doing, I told her editing one of my stories.  I give her credit, she did ask what I wrote - my response was romance with a kink.  "Oh" - no more questions.

One brother and one daughter to go.  Not sure the latter will ever happen.  I know how PK has done it, how about you?  Who, in your family or circle, have you told?

  1. Glad you have received such positive responses from family and friends. Of course I'm not an author, but I haven't told anyone in RL about our lifestyle.

  2. Hi Sunny, I have told no one ( but I think my dad knows anyway!!). I sometimes wish I could but no one I know would be interested. I think it's great though if you can talk about it openly

    1. I just told them about writing, not actual lifestyle. I could never do that.

  3. I have told no one but I think our oldest daughter might have a clue. I've caught her also reading a lot of my books on my nook. I don't think most of my friends would understand, their pretty independent and have made comments about how they do notice how Rog leads and how they would never allow that in their marriage. It must feel great to be able to start opening up about it. I'm glad that it is working out for you.

    1. Kids pick up on everything. My family and friends have asked no questions about the books so I have to assume they're not interested in the topic. After all, murder myster writers don't commit murders, right. lol

  4. I've never told anyone about our spanko lifestyle, and have no intention of doing so.

    1. Trust me, those people know nothing about our spanko lifestyle and like you, they never will. Well maybe the occasional fanny swat I'll receive in their presence, but that's as far as it goes and that's been going on long before the rest.

  5. Never told anyone, however something's wouldn't surprise them. My guy always loudly proclaims he's going to turn me over his knee. I don't think I will tell since they may think the reality is too much.

    2. But, have you told them about your stories? That's what I've revealed, and only that.

  6. Nope. I haven't told anyone. Couple of times I've been tempted but none of my girlfriends would understand.

Happy you got a positive response from your friends.

  7. As you said you know my story. My good friend in real life have been surprised and amused. But I've never gotten one bit of feedback on any of my books. I wish they'd say something, tell me they're horrible, but say something!

    1. I know. My friends have been amused (that's a good word) but I've never received any feedback either. Once in a while my friend will ask "How's the writing coming?" and that's it.
The only feedback I've received has been from my brother's friend who liked the story I shared = it was the one about the country singer.

  8. As far as DD goes, the only ones that knew were Matthew's family. As far as my artwork goes, my mom, youngest son and DIL have all seen my 'erotic' paintings and have enjoyed them. Of course, DIL thinks one is a woman on her knees praying. LOL

Good luck with telling your other brother and daughter.

    Hugs and Blessings...

    1. I love what DIL thinks. Maybe she is praying for you. lol

I'm never telling my daughter I write books, at least not for another 100 years. There is no dd so nothing to tell.

    1. I really haven't even told the ones who know I write books about the blog and I seriously doubt they have ever been curious enough to investigate. But, like PK, I've received no feedback on the books at all.

  10. I have no plans to tell anyone that I know about ttwd! I am pretty sure that our kids know that there is spanking going on/that we are into some kink in that way. Good grief and yikes is all I have to say about that! Some are a bit snoopy I think. Rob has the leather paddles in his bedside drawer, and the wooden "cheeseboard" in his dresser. If they are nosy, they have seen them. We do have "toys" locked up in a bag.

I am more than sure that our friends notice that I "behave" when Rob asks something of me in public. They also notice that we are a close couple and have a very loving relationship. A couple friends know that I let Rob lead. That is plenty of info. I never want any to know about anything more!!! Many hugs,

    <3 Katie

  11. Yes, it's hard to keep things from kids. They hone their detective skills early - you remember don't you?

My telling has just been the fact that I write books not the rest. That's between Rey and I and the rest of blogland. LOL
